Sheraton’s Debut PNG Hotel Fit for a Chief and Jet-Setting Footy Fans
Footy fans wishing to catch the PNG Chiefs on their home turf from 2028 may do so in style, with the Pacific nation’s first Sheraton hotel opening this week across the road from the national rugby league stadium.
The Sheraton brand has debuted in PNG with a 394-key hotel featuring an infinity pool, day spa, the nation’s largest ballroom and biggest gym, and soundproof booths in the lobby.
Importantly for jet-setting Aussie rugby league tragics, the new hotel is across John Guise Drive from PNG Football Stadium where the Chiefs will debut in 2028 as the National Rugby League’s second non-Australian team behind the New Zealand Warriors.
Visiting Chiefs, their fans or foes who do not wish to use the lobby’s cones of silence can speak freely in its coffee shop, market stall or bar.
Hotel general manager Shin Ching said the new Sheraton was an important addition to PNG’s hospitality sector.
A five-minute drive from Jacksons International Airport and connected to a shopping mall, the hotel is the culmination of the renovation and rebranding of the former Stanley Hotel. The hotel is now called the Sheraton Port Moresby Stanley Hotel & Suites.
Among the inn’s 394 rooms are 95 apartments with separate living areas, kitchens and dining areas to support extended and family stays.
The hotel has 2500sq m of meeting and event space, including dining rooms, a Sheraton Club and the palatial ballroom.
